Mabuhay ang Wikang Pilipino: A Month-long Celebration for the Buwan ng Wika

“Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay mas malansa pa sa isda.”

Every August, students all over the country celebrate a very significant event for every Filipino—the Buwan ng Wika. It is a month when students gain more knowledge about our native languages. This year, the Filipino club focused more on the different languages spoken in our country like: Bisaya, Ilocano, Kapangpangan, etc. Here are some of the activities the Filipino club will conduct and have conducted with the theme: “Wika Natin ang Daang Matuwid”.

The first activity the Filipino club conducted was the essay. Through this activity, the students can express or write their opinion and knowledge about the theme. Second was the poster and slogan making contest where the students showcased their talents and creativity through drawing and writing. Third was the quiz bee where the students compete using their knowledge on the subject Filipino. The upcoming activities will sure be helpful in enhancing the talents and skills of the students. Now, the fourth year students are preparing for the elimination for the speech choir and the winner will represent the school for the Solidarity which will be held on September.

First Grading Period: A Success

For the first grading period, I have learned how to create a blog, beautify a blog, and how and what to write in a blog. I have learned the value of blogs to students like me. For example, when I feel something, I can write it all in a blog to take the feeling out. Second, when I want to share something whether an information, a fact, and or a significant happening in my life. I can also write stories, share pictures and videos, and write a diary. Blogs are like 3-in-1 coffees and 5-in-1 laundry soaps only better----ALL-IN-ONE.

When I write an entry for my blog, I sometimes worry about my grammar and English words since we should type in English. I also had problems on the time since I have a partner whom I share the computer with.

Even though those problems existed, those didn't stop me from posting and having "good" grades. I consulted my classmates about my grammar even though I think this entry of mine already have a lot of wrong-grammar sentences. About the time, I just typed faster to finish my post on time.

Next grading period, I will do my best to improve. Not just in blogging but also on the other aspects like my studies. I will participate during our class and I swear to really study and review hard for the next grading periods.

Reiko, it's time to get serious. So high school, bring it on!

Sama-sama Tayo sa Tuwid na Daan: President Aquino's 4th State of the Nation Address

June 22 marked another significant event on the calendars of every Filipino. This day, President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III gave his 4th State of the Nation Address in his term.

President Aquino gave his SONA at the Batasang Pambansa in Manila where all politicians and celebrities showcased their colorful and stunning attires which Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago didn't agree with. She stated that the concentration of the audience would be on the attires instead of President PNoy's speech. The senators agreed with her so it was decided that Senator Loren Legarda will design the SONA uniforms.

A lot of our fellow citizens protested outside the venue. According to them, the way he ruled was not enough to raise them in poverty. But for some, they were satisfied with the way PNoy ruled. Behind this situation was a success.

PNoy praised the department secretaries and all the government employees for a job well done. He focused his speech on how to make Philippines a progressive country. He gave importance to education which the politicians thought was not enough. They were not satisfied because PNoy forgot to talk about the budget of the Philippines, the hottest issue-- the Pork Barrel, and the OFWs.

In overall, the 4th State of the Nation Address of President Benigno Aquino III was a success.
